Teeth will move over time with a constant steady pressure. During treatment, adjustments are made to the wires approximately every eight to ten weeks. Our high-tech wires work with your body temperature. These state of the art mechanics cause very little discomfort as they move your teeth.
Let's back up and talk about orthodontic treatment step by step.
1. Initial Visit and Examination
- Opportunity to get your questions answered
- Clinical evaluation
2. Diagnostic Records
- Digital x-rays
- Photographs of your face and teeth
- Impressions
3. Treatment Consultation
- Review the diagnostic records and orthodontic concerns
- Discuss treatment recommendation, length of treatment, what's involved, what results can be expected, and your active role to assure success
- Make suggested appointments
Now you're ready to begin.
Treatment varies from one patient to another. Growth and compliance contribute to the success of treatment.
4. Two-Step Process for Getting Braces
- Impressions and placing separators
- Receiving your braces
Once the braces are on, we will need to see you approximately every 8-10 weeks.
5. Orthodontic Adjustments
- Wires are adjusted after a thorough hygiene check
- New ties are placed to hold the wire in
6. Removal of Braces
- Braces are removed and impressions are taken for the final step — retainers
If you play sports we recommend using a mouthguard.
7. Receiving Retainers
- Retainers are recommended for a lifetime. In the beginning you will need to wear your retainers full time. The numbers of hours needed to wear a retainer will be reduced over time. A good thing to remember is if your retainers feel tight, it's probably a sign that you need to wear them more!
